Formentini's Pinot Grigio Collio is a white wine that originates in the hills between Cormons and San Floriano, in the Collio area. This land, with good exposure and favourable temperature fluctuations, makes the wine in question aromatic, fine and complex, also following refinement on noble lees. Ripe pear, green apple and wisteria are some of the aromas you will find when tasting it, perhaps with a good seafood risotto
The historic Friulian winery Formentini presents its Collio Pinot Grigio, a white wine with a complete and balanced character that originates from the hills between Cormons and San Floriano del Collio. Arriving in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region around the mid-1800s, Pinot Grigio found an ideal environment here, capable of enhancing the natural qualities of this gray grape variety. Thanks to its exceptional adaptation, Pinot Grigio is now the most cultivated variety in Collio Goriziano, a record shared with two other traditional grape varieties, Friulano and Sauvignon Blanc.
Formentini Collio Pinot Grigio originates solely from grapes of the same variety grown on hilly terrain consisting of the so-called "ponca," a type of soil formed by an alternation of layers of marl and sandstone. In addition to the peculiar pedological matrix, the vines benefit from excellent exposure and significant temperature variations between day and night, a factor that promotes optimal accumulation of aromatic precursors in the grapes. Harvesting takes place during the first half of September and is followed by destemming and subsequent gentle pressing of the clusters, with the resulting must undergoing alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The maturation phase also takes place in steel on the fine lees, containers in which the wine rests for several months until the final bottling.
Formentini Collio Pinot Grigio has a bright straw yellow color with greenish reflections. The aroma unfolds with hints of white peach, green apple, pear, wisteria, and flint, sensations that are also found on the palate along with lively freshness and a soft body that contribute to the complexity, finesse, and balance of the sip.
