Sito Moresco Gaja 2020

Gaja winery's "Sito Moresco" is an intense and complex red wine produced in Barbaresco, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. It is made from a blend in which the longevity and complexity of the predominantly Nebbiolo grape variety combine with the pleasant acidity of Barbera and the full-bodied character of Merlot to create an expression of great harmony and elegance. The vines are trained using the traditional guyot method on enchanting hillsides with exceptional exposures, located more than 300 meters above sea level. The winery, which today owns about 90 hectares under vine, is a historic family-run business that has been able to establish itself on the world wine scene thanks to a constant and undaunted search for quality, renewing traditions and importing new production techniques to stay in step with the times with intelligence and intuition.

Gaja's Sito Moresco is made from carefully selected grapes harvested by hand at the moment of their perfect ripeness. The bunches, brought to the winery, are destemmed and gently crushed and then undergo alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with frequent pumping over and maceration on the skins of a few weeks. This is followed by racking with pressing of the skins, after which the wine remains in refinement for at least 12 months in stainless steel containers before being bottled and continuing its maturation in the bottle for a few months before the final release.

Gaja Sito Moresco shows a beautiful bright ruby red colour to the eye. Intense aromas of ripe red fruit and berries appear on the nose, including cherry, black cherry, currant and raspberry, floral notes of rose and other dried flowers, and herbaceous and slightly spicy hints of pepper in the background. In the mouth, it is soft, rich, deep and structured, characterized by a beautiful freshness that makes it pleasant to sip and by a silky and subtle tannic texture.
