In Mesnil-sur-Oger, the motherland par excellence of Champagne Blanc de Blancs, made of chalk soils and sincere minerality, the Jean Louis Vergnon maison has its roots. The link between the Vergnon family and the house of Champagne, is lost in the mists of time, no less than five generations of men and women, vignerons of tradition who found themselves working a land of absolute exception. Today it is Clément and Didier Vergnon, supported by the expertise of winemaker Julian Goût, who carry on with commitment and experimentation, the agricultural and winemaking work inaugurated by previous generations.

The J-L Vergnon maison covers 5½ hectares of property, in an exclusive and qualitatively enviable wine-making area. The most historic vineyards, averaging 30 years of age, are all located in the commune Mesnil-sur-Oger classified Grand Cru, but some new acquisitions - in Oger and Aviz, infamous Grand Cru of the Cote des Blancs, and in Vertus et Villeneuve, classified Premier Cru - are useful for experimenting with new blends in the cellar. The absolute protagonist of Vergnon's signature production is undoubtedly Chardonnay; with this noble grape variety one can play, experiment and gamble, with the good fortune of being able to count on 20 different plots entirely dedicated to it, the king of Blanc de Blancs.

The philosophy that has always guided Jean Louis Vergnon's farming is devoted to the respect and sustainability of the environment; a 'raisonnée' - that is, reasoned - approach is the perfect answer! Herbicides have not been used for at least 15 years, the grass grows unrestrained and treatments are limited to what is strictly necessary. The same care is found in the cellar where stainless steel vats and French oak tonneaux are used for alcoholic fermentations and where resting on the lees in the bottle goes on for at least 3 years, before dégorgement. Very low dosages and further resting in glass, before marketing, are the final ingredients to unleash all the tension, verticality, incomparable finesse and tasty pleasantness of Chardonnay.
