Riesling Spatlese Grosse Lage Apotheke 'Magna Charta' Josef Milz 2021

Josef Milz's Riesling Spatlese Grosse Lage Apotheke 'Magna Charta' is a light, easy-drinking white wine from the Mosel region. It is characterised by a perfect balance of freshness and sweetness, making it suitable for savoury game dishes or delicate cheeses, as well as low-sugar desserts such as a lemon cheesecake. In fact, it also lends itself very well to being paired with the foods of Asian cuisine, which play a lot on the concept of acid-sweet and which bind impeccably with the hints of honey and caramel that this Riesling manages to give

RIESLING SPATLESE GROSSE LAGE APOTHEKE 'MAGNA CHARTA' JOSEF MILZ 2021 DESCRIPTION

The family-run Josef Milz estate presents the Riesling Spatlese Grosse Lage Apotheke 'Magna Charta', one of the winery's top labels, endowed with elegance, complexity and breadth. The Grosse Lage category identifies those German wines from specific vineyards of exceptional vocation, processed and vinified according to very strict rules. This category is placed at the top of the quality pyramid and is therefore the equivalent of the Grand Cru in Germany. The 'Magna Charta' line, the Weingut's top selection, was made for the first time with the 2017 vintage to show the qualities that small woods can bring to Mosel Riesling.

The Grosse Lage Riesling Spatlese Josef Milz 'Magna Charta' Apotheke is produced from only Rhine Riesling grapes grown in vineyards on the Trittenheimer Apotheke site, which are characterised by extreme slopes and a blue-grey slate soil matrix. The harvesting is carried out late and the grapes are then subjected to a gentle pressing, followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks. For the subsequent maturation phase, which lasts for a few months, used wooden barrels are used instead, and after a short rest in the bottle, the wine is finally ready to be put on the market.

In the goblet, the Riesling Spatlese 'Magna Charta' Grosse Lage Apotheke of Weingut Josef Milz reveals a straw-yellow guise with brilliant gold-green hues. The broad range of aromas opens up on perceptions of ripe pear, lemon cream, violets and white flowers, complemented by a refined mineral vein and sweet hints of wildflower honey, toffee and vanilla. On the palate it is sweet but not at all heavy, very fresh and harmonious, with a refined progression that rests on a long finish.
