Domaine Schlumberger is a family-run estate that has been cultivating vines and producing wine in Alsace for seven generations. Founded in 1810, the winery makes wine exclusively from grapes grown on the estate and has preserved a typically artisanal spirit. In the early 19th century, Nicolas Schlumberger bought some 20 hectares of vineyards near Guebwiller, which still form the original nucleus of the domaine. After many vicissitudes, including the destruction of the vineyards by phylloxera and two world wars, the estate is now managed by the seventh generation of the family, represented by Thomas and Severine Schlumberger. Thanks to a profound knowledge of the terroir and high-quality plots, the brand has always distinguished itself by the impeccable quality of its wines.

The property covers a total of more than 130 hectares, mainly located in the Guebwiller area, at an altitude of between 250 and 390 metres above sea level, with south-west, south and south-east facing exposures. This is a Domaine of high prestige, especially considering that no less than 70 hectares are classified as Grand Cru in the territories of: Kitterlé, Kessler, Saering and Spiegel. A large part of the vineyards are on steep slopes, cultivated with terraces supported by stone walls with a total length of 50 kilometres. The Vosges protect the area from perturbations, guaranteeing a rather mild and always windy climate. The soils are very suitable, for the most part composed of sandstone and sand, and very suitable for growing white grapes. The terracing of the vineyards forces artisanal work, carried out by hand or with the help of horses, according to the most ancient traditions of the area.

The poor soils, the vineyards managed with short pruning and low yields, make it possible to obtain high quality grapes with very concentrated and intense aromas. The vineyards are managed according to the principles of integrated pest management and the estate has obtained HVE (Haute Valeur Environnemental) level 3 certification, the highest ever. The range of wines represents the various terroirs and regional customs very well. The Les Princes Abbés collection offers single-varietal wines from the seven grape varieties authorised in Alsace, while the line of labels dedicated to Grand Cru is only produced in favourable vintages and with the varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer. Even rarer are the cuvées dedicated to Vendages Tardives or Sélections de Grains Nobles, precious bottles for connoisseurs. The wines are only distributed in the Horeca channel and about 65% is exported abroad.
