Poggio al Tesoro is the estate that was born in 2001 from the desire of Marilisa and Walter Allegrini to measure themselves with an entirely new project. Starting from their beloved Valpolicella, where the family has solid and celebrated historical roots, they moved in search of a reality of strong impact and landed in the Bolgheri area, immediately falling in love with the great beauty of the landscape and the deep potential that still lies there. Today Marilisa's daughters, Carlotta and Carolina, are also involved in the management of the company, dynamically carrying on the business with the same vision set by their uncle, who died prematurely.
Poggio al Tesoro came to life with the purchase of the first 11-hectare plot in the area that leads from Strada delle Sondraie, in the northern part of the Bolgheri territory, to Fossa Camilla, directly on the coast. Later, the 7 hectares of the Chiesina di San Giuseppe estate and another 7 hectares, some already planted, were added, also along the Bolgherese Road. The land holdings are completed with the acquisitions of other plots put up for sale by the owners and the total extension reaches 67 and a half hectares. The parceling of the land started in 2003 allows each variety to be matched to the most suitable area: sand and gravelly skeleton for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc; clay with a wide variety of minerals for Merlot. The ampelographic varieties are later complemented by Vermentino, selected directly in Corsica, and two other powerfully French white berries such as Viognier and Petit Manseng. In the vineyard, a careful approach to environmental sustainability is observed using agricultural practices such as green manure and selective mowing, which bring organic fertilization and fertility to the soil, while the widest possible biodiversity is safeguarded in every way. Pruning is obviously differentiated according to variety and yields per hectare kept very low so as to concentrate the aromatic potential of the fruit, and harvests are generally carried out at night.
The winery at Poggio al Tesoro represents a space built according to rules of efficiency and rationality. The materials used are steel for the fermentation vats and barrique oak for the aging or even vinification of the major reds, among which the pure Cabernet Franc dedicated to Walter Allegrini stands out. With the 2016 vintage, experimentation with vinification in amphora began for part of Solo Sole and Cassiopea, the Vermentino in purity and the rosé from Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
"Poggio al Tesoro, di proprietà della famiglia Allegrini, si sta affermando come realtà di riferimento in terra di Bolgheri"
