Paolo Marchionni's winery is a small artisanal concern that has made a name for itself through a range of wines that are straightforward, sincere and endowed with great territorial typicity. The estate is located in Vigliano, in a beautiful area southwest of Florence. We are in the historic heart of wine Tuscany, in the lands of the Colli Fiorentini of Chianti, a stone's throw from the wild and unspoiled area of the Bosco della Roveta, which is a precious green lung for the ecosystem and biodiversity. Paolo Marchionni's adventure in the world of wine began in 1978, with a desire to return to the places of his childhood. A path, which within a few years, led him to establish himself as one of the most interesting producers in the area.
The vineyards are cultivated on very vocated soils, of a rather heterogeneous and complex nature, with the presence of limestone, sands, traces of clays and a strong stony component of galestro and alberese. These are poor soils, very draining and suitable for quality viticulture. Exposures on steep, well-sunlit slopes and a cool, temperate climate favor excellent grape ripening. Inspired by ancient farming traditions and modern sensibility, based on the recovery of a healthy relationship with nature, pesticides and chemical fertilizers are not used in the countryside. Only and exclusively organic farming preparations are used, so as to respect the vines, the surrounding environment and the natural fertility of the soil.
The estate covers a total area of about 7 hectares, 90 percent planted with Sangiovese, but there is also an old vineyard of Tuscan Trebbiano and a plot planted with all'internazionale Chardonnay. The vineyards are managed with low yields, and harvests are carried out at the time of full maturity, with manual harvesting by individual parcel. Vinifications are very simple and carried out with minimal oenological intervention. Fermentations are initiated in cement or steel tanks, while wooden barrels of different sizes are also used for aging, depending on the label and vintage. Paolo Marchionni's wines are a faithful mirror of the territory, interpreted with limpid authenticity.
