Pacina signifies Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, in the Etruscan language: the history of this winery will forever be marked by this close etymological connection to wine. Pacina represents hospitality, family and integrity. At least once in our lives we should all experience the atmosphere of Pacina, in that immense garden that was the setting for many scenes in the film 'Natural Resistance' (J. Nossiter, 2014). Pacina is a 20th-century monastery that extends over 60 hectares of land, of which only 10 are dedicated to vines. The vines grow wild and untamed, and are surrounded by fields of legumes, centuries-old olive trees, orchards and woods. This precious inheritance was left by father Enzo to Giovanna, who today radiates with the same energy, biodiversity and generosity of times past, strengthened by the fact that she has never compromised in any way with the wine industry or with single-crop agriculture.

The Pacina winery is in a middle ground in Tuscany, near the town of Castelnuovo Berardenga, where the Chianti Classico hills embrace the Crete Senesi. It is a borderland between two denominations, two landscapes, between sandy soils and clay soils, between sturdy trunks and the roots of rural wisdom. The vineyards are characterised by pure nature and the cellar by extreme minimalism, where her grandfather's large concrete tanks are flanked by wooden barrels that are all different from each other, preserved between damp walls embedded with stones and fossils.

Giovanna Tiezzi's wine is natural in its purest and most sincere sense, far from modern trends and easy approval: the approach to wine-making in Pacina has been the same for five generations. However, it is the manner of interpreting and consuming it that has changed. In 2008, Giovanna left the Chianti DOCG denomination, initially betraying the memory of her grandmother Lidia who was the first female winemaker in Pacina. The truth however, is that Sangiovese, as Giovanna interprets it, cannot be released on the market two years after the harvest - as dictated by the regulations - but rather after five!

Pacina's life story is nowadays the result of a great love: that with Stefano, a Milanese agronomist who has moved to Chianti. Together they share their love and their professional life, supported by Maria Clotilde and Carlo Edoardo, Pacina's children, who are committed towards presenting Pacina to the world; will they ever return home?!
