Lorenzo Accomasso is one of the legendary names of the Langhe area. His wines are sought after by all the enthusiasts and connoisseurs of great Barolo and represent an important reference point for Piedmontese wine. This is a small artisanal winery, which has always fostered a deep relationship with the territory and its most ancient traditions. The farming culture, the respect and love for the land, and the careful and meticulous work in the vineyard as the core of the whole activity, are the cornerstones on which Lorenzo Accomasso has been able to build his success, step by step. He is a down-to-earth man, shy and soft-spoken, who has always avoided the spotlight, choosing to stay among the rows of vines (since 1958) and allowing his extraordinary wines to speak for themselves.
His estate is located in the hamlet of Annunziata di La Morra, in the north-west of the Barolo denomination area. The geological nature of the soils is a result of sedimentation of the seabed dating back to the Miocene era, when this region was covered by the Piedmontese tertiary basin. The soils are mainly composed of Sant'Agata Fossili marls, which consist of silt, limestone, clay and sand, in varying percentages depending on the area and altitude. They are among the most precious soils and are capable of producing elegant, refined wines, which are characterised by great harmony and balance. The climate is mild and temperate, always ventilated, and particularly suitable for a late-ripening grape such as Nebbiolo. Thanks to this fortunate climatic setting, La Morra has become famous and Lorenzo Accomasso has been able to interpret the territory in the best possible way.
The three hectares of the winery's estate are located in splendid sunny exposures, at an altitude of about 300 metres above sea level. The vineyards are cultivated with maniacal care in order to obtain high quality grapes. Lorenzo Accomasso has always cultivated his vines with short pruning, so that they produce few bunches per plant, resulting in a remarkable aromatic concentration. Traditional agriculture is practised in the vineyards, based on the ancient farming culture of respect for the land and the surrounding nature. From an enological point of view, the traditional methods are followed, with simple vinification and long maceration on the skins. The wines are matured in large casks and are aged for long periods, first in wood and then in the bottle. This is how wines of excellent quality are created, which are among the very best expressions of the La Morra territory.
