Domaine Giacometti constitutes one of the most interesting and representative wineries in Corsica. Located in Casta, in the far north of the island, this family-run winery has always aimed to support the singular manifestation of terroir by offering wines that are emblematic of the prestigious Patrimonio wine-growing area. The history of the Domaine began in 1987, when Laurent Giacometti and his son Christian bought the estate. Ten years later, Christian took the reins together with his wife Corinne, while in 2006 the third generation, represented by Sarah and Simon, took over. However, the common thread that binds the family is always to respect the environment and the wine expression of the land.
In this wild area with a Mediterranean climate and rich granite soils, Domaine Giacometti cultivates approximately 26 hectares of vines. Although the area is characterised by strongly rainy seasons, the constant presence of the Libeccio wind counteracts the humidity and reduces the risk of fungal attacks. More than half the vineyards are planted to Niellucciu, a Sangiovese clone that has always been grown in Corsica, followed by the indigenous Vermentinu and Sciaccarellu vines, with minor plantings of Grenache and Syrah. In the field, operations are carried out according to organic farming principles, without the use of synthetic chemicals, in order to grow healthy plants while minimising human intervention. After the harvests, carried out by hand, the same production philosophy is adopted in the cellar, with spontaneous fermentation and no addition of exogenous chemical substances. Each parcel is vinified separately and then eventually blended.
Those of Domaine Giacometti are genuine and emblematic wines made mostly from single grape varieties. The selection includes the 'Cru des Agriate' line, consisting of a white from Vermentinu grapes, a rosé made from Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu and a red from the same indigenous grape varieties, and the prestige line 'Cuvée Sarah', consisting of a white Vermentinu and a red Niellucciu. The accessible 'Rosé Diceppo', 'Sempre Cuntentu', 'Sempre Azezzu' and 'Le Vin Coule dans nos Veines' complete the range.
