Coppo is a company founded in Canelli (Asti) in 1892 that for more than 130 years has had as its mission the production of wines with the highest expression of the territory's specificity. It was among the first in Italy to vinify and bottle under its own brand the grapes produced in its own vineyards. The quest for quality, respect for native varieties, innovation in support of tradition and reliability are its founding values. The symbol of the winery, which from 2021 will be part of a Group of wineries expressing a 100% Italian reality with Piedmontese roots and guided by the same values and with a vineyard area of over 85 hectares, is the reproduction of a wooden sculpture made for Coppo in the 1920s. It depicts a putto trying to contain the effervescence of a bottle of sparkling wine. At his feet is engraved the Latin motto 'Robur et Salus' (Strength and Health).
The history of Coppo, which remains rooted in the home of Italian sparkling wine, is inextricably linked to that of Monferrato in Piedmont, one of the most distinctive areas on the Italian and world wine map. Coppo wines are born and rest in historic cellars that were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. Built starting in the 18th century as small storage cellars, remodelled and enlarged during the 19th and 20th centuries up to modern renovations and arrangements, they extend under the hill of Canelli for 5 thousand square metres and up to 40 metres deep. Coppo is committed to preserving and making usable this heritage dedicated to wine, its history and the work of man.
