In the heart of Tuscany, among the hills of Gaiole in Chianti, stands the majestic Meleto Castle, an estate that carries on a millennium-old tradition. Founded back in 1256, this imposing fortress has witnessed centuries of wine-making history and its evolution. Today, Castello di Meleto remains a landmark in the Italian wine scene, stewarding its lands and vineyards, spanning one hundred and sixty hectares dedicated to grape cultivation.
The production philosophy of Castello di Meleto is based on careful vineyard management and the authentic expression of the territory. The lands surrounding the castle are divided into five macro-zones, each with unique climate, exposure, and soil composition: Meleto, San Piero, Poggiarso, Moci, and Casi. Here, the Sangiovese grape reigns supreme, alongside other indigenous and international varieties such as Malvasia Nera, Canaiolo, Vermentino, and Merlot. The selection of the most suitable terroirs, combined with the practice of manual harvesting for 70% of the grapes, reflects the winery's commitment to producing high-quality wines. The winemaking process exclusively uses estate-grown grapes, ensuring total control over quality from vine to bottle. The grapes, carefully selected in the vineyard and then on the sorting table, undergo a craft production with minimal intervention, respecting the work done in the vineyard and cellar to the fullest. The result is authentic and distinctive wines that fully reflect the character of the territory.
Among the excellences of Castello di Meleto stand out wines like Vigna Casi and Camboi, characterized by spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts and careful selection of grapes, making them authentic expressions of Chianti and the passion of its custodians. In addition to producing high-quality wines, this winery conducts various activities and promotes unique food and wine experiences, including guided tastings of its wines, but also offers the opportunity to delve into the history of the castle and participate in cultural events that celebrate Tuscan tradition. Thus, Castello di Meleto continues to be a magical place where history, nature, good wine, and good food blend into an unforgettable experience for its visitors.
