The Andrian winery, founded in 1893, is the oldest winery in the whole of South Tyrol. It was in that very year that the winegrowers of Andrian, a small municipality in the province of Bolzano situated at the bottom of the Adige River valley, decided to take a truly innovative step for those times, namely to join forces to create the region's first cooperative winery. An action that in the following decades became standard practice in the area, which is characterised today by the presence of top-quality cooperatives.
From the very beginning, Kellerei Cantina Andriano's quest for constant quality in its products, capable of lasting. Since one of the mottos is that 'only change ensures continuity', the constant changes in the wine industry are carefully observed and we evolve with them. It is in the light of this philosophy that the step taken in 2008, when the company structure decided to merge with the Terlan winery, should be read. Today, the Terlan winery is the thinking head of Andrian, a company whose wines are the result of the dedication, attention and passion that binds every person who works there to the land, the vine and the grapes.
The terroir on which the members work is that surrounding the city of Bolzano, where the subsoil is characterised by a medium mixture of quartziferous porphyry, dolomite residues and limestone. Here, the vineyards extend over an area of approximately 80 hectares, at an altitude of between 260 and 340 metres above sea level, characterised by a unique microclimate, which ensures the right degree of acidity, providing freshness and concentrating the fruity aromas in each bunch. Between the rows, the varieties best suited to the area are cultivated, such as Pinot Blanc, Lagrein, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir. In the cellar, the maturation and refinement of each type follows the rhythm of nature, the sole creator of bottles that last. Andriano produces several labels each year, divided between the more 'classic' line and the 'selections' line. These are crisp, crystal-clear expressions of the terroir, capable of recounting with sincerity and dedication the centuries-old history of South Tyrolean oenology.
