Winemaker Andrea Scovero has been running the estate owned by his family for three generations in the Piedmont town of Bionzo since 1990. The land is that of Costigliole d'Asti, between Langhe and Monferrato, in the Asti hills, where Barbera is the protagonist. The family vineyards cover a little more than 6 hectares on these hills, cultivated in accordance with organic farming, with great ecological and environmental awareness.
Andrea Scovero is a secluded and reserved winemaker, a true artisan of wine from another era, who has remained faithful to ancient traditions handed down from father to son for several generations. His human and working path is marked by a continuous quest for the highest quality. The wine he produces is only what he likes to drink, the genuine fruit of the land he loves and of authentic farming practices. His work is that of an all-round winemaker: vineyard management, grape harvesting, winemaking and bottling; operations that he very often carries out alone. For more than 15 years he has stopped using chemical synthesis products in the vineyard and minimizes the amount of copper in favor of natural substances such as propolis and algae extracts. In the winery, fermentations take place spontaneously, without the addition of oenological additives, and the wines produced are the fruit of the synergy between nature and the expert hand of man.
Andrea Scovero's wines tell in a direct and unfiltered way the peculiarities of the territory from which they are born. They are children of the vintage and, therefore, always different as years go by. They are generally deep, intense, structured and rich in extract, endowed with great character and supported by an exuberant freshness. They can keep a long time in the cellar, evolving nicely, in the best cases, for decades.
