WHISKY SINGLE MALT CAOL ILA 9 YO ARTIST COLLECTIVE 2013 DESCRIPTION

From the collaboration between the Scottish distillery Caol Ila and the French brand La Maison du Whisky comes Artist Collective's Single Malt 9 Years Old Coal Ila, a distillate produced in a limited edition that stands out for its fragrant and roasted scents. The Caol Ila distillery is located on the island of Islay and it is no coincidence that its name derives from the Scottish Gaelic expression 'Caol Ìle', an appellation for the Sound of Islay, the strait dividing the islands of Islay and Jura. The Artist Collective project was created to express and highlight the quality and differences of Scottish Single Malts, depending on the region and style.
Artist Collective Caol Ila 9 Years Old Single Malt Whisky is crafted in the Scottish Highlands with only barley malt. Malting is carried out by mixing barley grains with water in order to promote the germination of the grain, which in turn is necessary to break down the starch into simple sugars that can be metabolised by the yeast during alcoholic fermentation. Once the fermentation process is complete, distillation can proceed in the discontinuous stills of the Caol Ila distillery and the liquid obtained is then subjected to the 9-year ageing phase. Maturation takes place in wooden barrels previously used for ageing wine that have been scraped, toasted and charred especially for whisky.
To the eye, the Single Malt 9 Years Old Whisky Caol Ila Artist Collective presents itself with an amber hue with golden highlights. The olfactory range consists of intriguing hints of fresh bread, light notes of charcoal and citrus aromas. Warm and enveloping on the palate, where the surprising savouriness is accompanied by a slightly smoky finish.
