Full-bodied and well-balanced Single Malt Whisky from Islay, charcterized by peated and marine notes and by sweet aromas of honey, exotic fruit and lemon zest, aged for 12 years
The Whisky Bowmore 12 Years is one of the sons of the village of Bowmore, considered the capital of the island of Islay. Here, on the banks of Loch Indaal, was built in 1779 the Scottish distillery. One of the oldest local distillation of Scotland, exposed to salty winds from the Atlantic. It is the proximity of the sea, the warehouses of aging lapped by the waves and even below sea level, to determine the characteristics of Bowmore. The malting process is carried out, for a part of the supply, directly into the distillery with a metered quantity of peat, while the water comes from the river Laggan. The distillery is equipped with four stills, two for each distillation. The Bowmore 12 Years is produced using water from the river Laggan, for over 2000 years the river descends from the hills containing the characteristic Islay peat, the same turf that is used as fuel in the oven to dry the malt. Peat, water, wood, people and tradition come together to create the elegant, cozy and smoky character of Bowmore whiskey. Color dark bronze, the Enigma 12 years it provides the nose with an unmistakable aroma characterized the smokiness of the classic Bowmore mixed with sweet sherry notes and hints of heather honey. The palate has flavors of sweet sherry initially followed by a robust smoke with traces of fresh lemon zest. Well balanced the sweet taste of peat smoke with a pinch of sea salt. Its uniqueness compared to 12 years classic is further aging in sherry casks Spanish after the usual use of American bourbon barrels.
