Podere Ranieri's Viognier 'Solo' is a fresh and aromatic white wine, aged six months in steel and another six months in bottle before release. The sip is mineral and refreshing, supported by a pleasant savory note on the finish, while the nose releases notes of white flowers, bergamot and black tea: a wine that expresses deep delicacy
'Solo' Viognier constitutes a white wine from the Tuscan Maremma with an innovative character, elaborated by the artisanal winemaking reality Podere Ranieri. Viognier is a grape variety defined between semi-aromatic and aromatic that in the Northern Rhône gives rise to one of the most appreciated whites around the world: the Condrieu. Podere Ranieri has chosen to focus on this variety with the intention of stepping out of the box and not following already beaten paths. What guides the processing of the Viognier 'Solo' is the desire to obtain a great aromatic cleanliness while enhancing the characteristic savory vein also given by the Maremma territory.
Podere Ranieri's Viognier 'Solo' is made with only grapes of the French variety of the same name grown in the Massa Marittima area. Here, at an altitude of 60 meters, the vines benefit from the proximity to the sea, the organic management of the vineyards and the silty-sandy soil, rich in clay and skeleton. Following manual harvesting, the clusters are taken to the winery where they undergo a 24-hour cold pre-fermentation maceration, aimed at preserving the aromatic precursors present in the berries. This is followed by soft pressing and subsequent alcoholic fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The elevation phase always takes place in steel and lasts for 6 months, followed by an additional 6 months of bottle aging before release.
Bright straw yellow is the color of Podere Ranieri Viognier 'Solo,' which evokes delicate hints of summer fruit, white flowers, bergamot, saffron and black tea on the nose, with an intense mineral vein in the background. Fresh, agile and savory on the palate, with a characteristic minerality that prolongs the persistence on the palate.
