The Trentino winery Dorigati presents the Trento Brut Riserva 'Methius', a fascinating and complex sparkling wine that condenses the territory's vocation for the production of great Metodo Classico wines. The two oenologist friends Carlo Dorigati and Enrico Paternoster created the Trento Brut Riserva 'Methius' in 1986, deciding to name it after a local toponym that would encapsulate the link between this label and its territory of origin. In fact, the term 'Methius' was already adopted in the 12th century to indicate the two hamlets located in the Piana Rotaliana: Methius Coronae and Methius Sancti Petri, today's Mezzacorona and Mezzolombardo respectively.
Dorigati Trento Spumant Brut Riserva 'Methius' derives from a blend of Chardonnay (60%) and Pinot Noir (40%), varieties grown in the hills of Faedo and Pressano, between 350 and 500 metres above sea level. The grapes are vinified using the white wine method with soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks, with part of the Chardonnay must fermenting in barriques. After a few months of maturation, the masses are blended and the wine is then placed in the bottle for re-fermentation according to the Metodo Classico, with 60 months of ageing on the lees. Once the sur lie phase is over, disgorgement and Brut dosage are carried out.
Dorigati's Spumante Trento Riserva Brut 'Methius' expresses a straw-yellow hue tending to golden with fine and persistent effervescence. The aromatic spectrum is intense and complex, defined by intriguing hints of ripe fruit, citrus, pineapple, mimosa and magnolia, enriched by hints of vanilla, butter biscuit and pistachio. The taste unveils an enveloping, non-aggressive bubble that gives a sensation of softness and creaminess, as well as a brilliant fresh-savoury component that drives the persistent, savoury finish.
