The Schioppettino di Prepotto di Vigna Petrussa is one of the most representative wines of the type: an intense and spicy red, aged for 18 months in new barriques. Hints of underbrush emerge on the nose with typical peppery nuances. The sip is full, soft and full-bodied, elegant and persistent
Vigna Petrussa's Schioppettino di Prepotto was born in the easternmost part of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, specifically in the municipality of Albana. The winery's history begins in the 1800s with the Petrussa family, who began cultivating these lands with cereals and vines, also joining the breeding of cows and horses used in farming and for trade with Hungary. Grandmother Giuseppina was the first woman winemaker in the family who, with skill and initiative, gave new impetus to the winery and grape processing techniques. In 1995 her daughter Hilde joined her mother in the business, arranging the vineyards and increasing the vines per hectare, grassing the entire vineyard area. Today the third generation takes care of the winery with love and passion, looking to the future and environmental sustainability.
The vineyards of Vigna Petrussa's Schioppettino di Prepotto are located about 150 meters above sea level, and here, the soil is ideal for Schioppettino to give all its best characteristics: the soil composition is, in fact, given by the presence of marly stone and sandstones here called "Ponka" for a structured and elegant final product. The climate here is continental, with summers that are not excessively hot and winters characterized by low temperatures and often affected by snowfall and sudden frosts. The grapes are harvested manually in small crates; in the cellar, maceration on the skins occurs with constant pumping over alternating with délestages. It is aged in wooden barrels for 24 months.
To the eye, Vigna Petrussa's Schioppettino di Prepotto is deep red with purplish highlights. The bouquet of aromas recalls notes of underbrush, ripe red-fleshed fruit such as strawberry and spicy hints such as black pepper. It is elegant, enveloping and well-structured on the palate, with a pleasant final persistence that draws the drinker in. It pairs perfectly with red meat dishes cooked over charcoal, local game and pasta dishes dressed with elaborate sauces; also interesting with aged cheeses. Perfect for accompanying family lunches during public holidays, savouring the tradition of Friuli and its most traditional flavours.
