Moon Import's Demerara 18 Year Old Rum is a precious and profound distillate that combines the quality of sugar cane grown in Guyana with the craftsmanship of ageing spirits from Scotland. Demerara is a historic region of South America that is now part of Guyana and from here come some of the finest rums from around the world. The word 'Demerara' originates from the union of two terms of Arawak origin, 'Immenary' and 'Dumaruni', literally 'river of wood'. In fact, the name of this region derives from the river of the same name that flows through it, where the precious cane sugar is cultivated. This rum bottled by Moon Import was distilled by Diamond Distillery, one of Guyana's most important distilleries.
Moon Import Rum Demerara 18 Anni comes from sugar cane plants grown along the Demerara River in Guyana. Once ripe, the plants are cut and pressed, with the resulting juice then undergoing alcoholic fermentation. For the distillation of the fermented liquor, carried out by Diamond Distillery, Pot Still discontinuous stills are used and the resulting liquid is transferred to Scotland for the ageing phase, which takes place in oak casks previously used to mature sherry. The decision to age rum in Scotland is due to the particular climatic conditions of the country, which create an ideal environment for the optimal sensory evolution of rum, as well as the long and established tradition of the Scottish people, the most expert in the art of maturing spirits. The ageing process takes a full 18 years and the rum is finally bottled and marketed under the Moon Import brand.
The 18 Anni Rum Demerara Moon Import is dark amber in colour with brilliant reflections. Ample and decisive aromas of chilli and fur and smoky nuances due to the passage in wood that prelude the intense and rich sip, with sweet sensations of dates and jam supported by peculiar spicy notes of mustard.
