The Rosso di Montalcino Il Poggione is an intense, full-bodied wine with excellent value for money, aged for 12 months in barrels and barriques. It has full and enveloping aromas of red fruit and a soft and structured taste, with velvety tannins
The Rosso di Montalcino of the Il Poggione winery represents a younger and fresher version of Brunello, but one with excellent structure and a great personality. Guided by the conviction that Rosso is not an inferior wine to Brunello but only a different expression of it, Leopoldo Franceschi, owner of Tenuta Il Poggione, is committed to the enhancement of this type, to which he reserves as many as 12 months of ageing in barrels and barriques.
Rosso di Montalcino Il Poggione is made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the winery's beautiful estate vineyards, which cover an impressive 125 hectares in the locality of Sant'Angelo in Colle, in the commune of Montalcino. In this natural paradise, the grapes benefit from the presence of other crops with which the vineyards are interspersed, as well as from the presence of olive groves and woods of holm oaks and cypresses.
Rosso di Montalcino is an intense, full-bodied wine with aromas reminiscent of ripe red fruit. In the mouth, it asserts its fine personality, demonstrating excellent structure and a delicate texture of soft, velvety tannins. This is a typical and very gastronomic red wine, described by the winery owner as "a great young Brunello."
