The Rosé Gris de Gris 'Pink Flamingo' from Domaine Royal de Jarras represents a savoury and graceful interpretation of the Sable de Camargue terroir, produced organically. The expression 'Gris de Gris' refers to those rosé wines made from the vinification of grey grape varieties, such as Grenache Gris, from which pale pink, almost grey rosés are obtained, a characteristic from which the appellation originates. The bottle design is the work of Colombian artist Catalina Estrada, with the name and illustration paying homage to the pink flamingos that flock to the Camargue area.
The Domaine Royal de Jarras 'Pink Flamingo' Gris de Gris Rosé is made from only Grenache Gris grapes grown under certified organic cultivation in the Mediterranean setting of Sable de Camargue. Here, the vineyards benefit from the highly sandy soil matrix as well as the warm and breezy climate that characterises the area. After harvesting, carried out at night in order to preserve the organic acids and aromas contained in the grapes, the bunches are subjected to a very gentle pressing, with only the first-press must used for vinification. This is followed by clarification and alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the same type of wine container used for the several-month ageing phase.
The 'Pink Flamingo' Gris de Gris Rosé from Domaine Royal de Jarras has a pale, bright, almost pearly pink colour. The aromatic bouquet offers graceful aromas of white peach, small red fruits and acacia flowers, combined with evocative hints of iodine. The palate is soft, savoury and refreshing, characterised by sensations of peach, apricot and citrus fruits that linger on the finish.
