The Riserva Roero Rosso "Roche d'Ampsej" is a full-bodied red wine, a unique and unmistakable expression of Piedmontese Nebbiolo. From its dark red robes, it flaunts fine odors of wilted violets, wild blackberry, cinnamon and roasting. Soft mouthfeel, perfectly in tune with the nose, with a full and elegant palate
Matteo Correggia's Roero Rosso Riserva 'Roche d'Ampsej' is an elegant, fine and delicate wine. It is made with pure Nebbiolo and a very careful vinification. The noble Piedmontese vine, in the sandy and loose lands of the Roero, gives us reds that are less powerful and concentrated than those of the Langhe, but endowed with an extraordinary expressive immediacy, which makes them very pleasant even to drink young, without waiting many years as happens with Barolo and Barbaresco. Precisely these characteristics make it a particularly gastronomic wine, which goes very well with pasta dishes with meat or game ragout or with roast white meats.
Matteo Correggia's 'Roche d'Ampsej' Roero Rosso Riserva is made by a young winery in the area, but one that can count on the experience of several generations. The estate is located in the Roero area, which is particularly suited for the production of both great whites and reds with a refined profile. The label takes its name from the location of the parcel, situated at an altitude of about 300 metres above sea level, in an area characterised by hills with steep slopes. The Nebbiolo vines are cultivated on soils composed of sand, with a small percentage of silt and clay. Thanks to a mild and temperate climate, the grapes ripen slowly and are harvested manually in the first weeks of October. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and in 6-hectolitre wooden vats, with a long maceration period on the skins of 45-60 days. Ageing takes place in 6-hectoliter barrels, tonneaux and barriques for 14 months, followed by two years of refinement in the bottle before release.
Matteo Correggia's Rosso Roero Riserva 'Roche d'Ampsej' offers the pleasantness of a great Nebbiolo, highlighting the excellent work of the cellar and the deep knowledge of the terroir and its characteristics. Luminous ruby red in colour, with light garnet highlights, it expresses on the nose aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, morello cherry, wild strawberries, floral nuances of dried rose petals, violet and delicately spicy hints. Medium-bodied, it has good aromatic complexity, rich fruit and a mature, well-integrated tannic texture. The finish is fresh, savoury and remarkably persistent.
