De Quarto's Primitivo di Manduria Riserva "Dyonisos" is an intense Salento red, made from grapes harvested from old vines located around Lizzano. This historicity can be found in the name, a Greek deity from the Italic Magna Graecia. Primitivo di Manduria has been present in Apulia for many centuries and is one of the region's identity vines, capable of giving powerful yet elegant wines like this 'Dionysos'. It has an intriguing bouquet: red fruits and green hints of fig, carob, but also cocoa and caramel revealing evolution. Powerful but refined, excellent with great meat dishes
Dionysos' Primitivo di Manduria Riserva from Apulian producer Antonio De Quarto is an expression of noteworthy intensity and character originating in the Lizzano area in the province of Taranto. Since 2004, the De Quarto estate has chosen to follow entirely sustainable agronomic protocols, immediately achieving a balanced vegetative and productive well-being in the vineyards. In addition, in the winery, the vinification is only assisted, excluding any practice of forcing or sophistication, to express the essence of the area faithfully. This bottle is dedicated to Dionysus, the Greek god of wine with taurine horns, who was chosen to indicate the link between the area's viticulture and Magna Graecia.
De Quarto Primitivo di Manduria 'Dionysos' Riserva is made only from Primitivo grapes from a selection of old vineyards bred to the Apulian alberello system on red soils rich in limestone, without the use of pesticides or herbicides. Following manual harvesting, which usually takes place in the second half of September, the grapes are vinified in red in stainless steel tanks, with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature and long maceration on the skins. Maturation of several months also takes place in stainless steel, at the end of which the wine is bottled and matured for a further period before release.
The Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 'Dionysos' from the De Quarto winery is an intense garnet red colour with ruby highlights. The nose has vivid fruity aromas of ripe cherries, dried figs and plums, assisted by hints of caramel, cocoa, carob and tobacco. Intense and full-bodied on the palate, broad and complex, with an elegant progression that relies on soft tannins.
