PIGNOLO RISERVA MOSCHIONI 2013 DESCRIPTION

Moschioni's Pignolo Riserva is one of those red wines from Friuli that sticks out, a red wine with infinite structure and power. Elegant, robust, muscular, full, with great strength and character: a red wine capable of surprising anyone. We are in a land of great white wines, where Michele has had the courage to devote his life to the production of red wines of immense character; a choice then against the grain that has led to producing few wines, without noise, without conforming to market fashions and trends. Michele always put his face into it and put in an inordinate amount of effort.

He has succeeded in realizing his dream, that of enhancing a heritage of great prestige. A clear example of this is his Pignolo, which grows on vineyards located in Cividale del Friuli and Prepotto, with a southern, southeastern exposure, at an altitude of 180-190 meters above sea level. The Pignolo grape has a small, cylindrical cluster with a narrow, round, thick, leathery, tannic berry. Harvesting is by hand and late, not before the beginning of October, and fermentation is triggered with indigenous yeasts and is carried out in wooden vats.

The ageing of this Pignolo is of the important kind: 12 months in new barriques, 12 months in large oak barrels and 6-8 months in steel, where a natural decanting of the wine takes place, which is then bottled without any filtration. The structure and power of this Pignolo will surprise you, as will its powerful notes of ripe plum and cherry. An overwhelming taste, a truly persistent tannin that indicates the absolute level of the longevity of this Pignolo...
