Bodega K5's K Pilota is a fresh, mineral white wine made from pure Hondarrabi Zuri grapes. Its journey begins in the Basque Country, a stone's throw from the Cantabrian Sea, where the climate is Atlantic and the rains very frequent. Here, the grapes ripen slowly on sloping granite soils and then undergo a short cold maceration, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and ageing for at least 5 months, all in stainless steel vats. A white wine with hints of white flowers and citrus fruits perfect to enjoy with fish or white meat tapas!
The 'K Pilota' Getariako Txakolina is a white wine from the Basque Country with a fresh and easy-going bouquet, produced by Bodega K5 from Hondarrabi Zuri grapes from the estate's youngest vineyards. Hondarrabi Zuri is by far the most widespread grape variety in the Basque Country, the region where it is native, although other theories place its origin beyond the Pyrenees, in south-western France. In any case, this variety has been cultivated for centuries in the Basque territory and, in fact, its name derives from Hondarribia, a town on the Cantabrian Sea close to the French border. Instead, the word Zuri means 'white' in the Basque language.
Bodega K5 'K Pilota' Getariako Txakolina is a 100% Hondarrabi Zuri whose grapes come from the estate's youngest vineyards, located at an altitude of around 300 metres on soils of laminated slate shale and granite, exposed to the oceanic breezes emanating from the Cantabrian Sea. Harvesting is done by hand with careful selection of the bunches of grapes, which are then transferred to the cellar and undergo cold pre-fermentation maceration. Subsequently, the must obtained from the soft pressing of the grapes is placed to ferment in stainless steel tanks, the same type of wine vats where the maturation process takes place for approximately 5 months on the fine lees.
The Getariako Txakolina 'K Pilota' from Bodega K5 Winery has a straw-yellow colour with greenish hues. The aromatic spectrum is composed of pleasant hints of apple, jasmine, chamomile and grapefruit, with rich hints minerals of wet stone and iodine emerging in the background. The balance on the palate is excellent between the roundness conferred by ageing on fine lees and the marked freshness typical of the vine and the terroir, components that contribute to the medium structure of the taste.
