Gattinara Riserva Antoniolo is a pure Nebbiolo characterized by great finesse and elegance. It is a wine that succeeds splendidly in combining the aromatic richness of the grapes with the mineral freshness typical of this celebrated terroir of Alto Piemonte. In this area, the grape variety expresses itself in a special way, with a more streamlined and austere profile than in the classic Langhe area. It is the fruit of an ancient savoir-faire, which translates into careful cultivation in the vineyard, precise vinification and ageing carried out with great care, to always preserve the noble personality of this extraordinary native grape.
Riserva Gattinara red wine comes from one of the best estates in the area. The Antoniolo winery manages about eleven hectares of vineyards in one of the most famous and prestigious appellations in Alto Piemonte. The grapes come from a selection of the winery's best Nebbiolo vineyards, which are about 40-50 years old and are cultivated in a hilly area with sunny south-facing exposure. The soils are of very ancient volcanic origin and were generated by the disintegration of lava rocks very rich in iron minerals. Good temperature ranges characterize the cool and very breezy climate. The grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for a few weeks. The wine ages for about 30 months in oak barrels and then altogether ageing within a year in the bottle.
The Gattinara Riserva Antoniolo wine is a splendid version of Nebbiolo, bringing the typical characteristics of the terroir into the glass. It is especially appreciated for its clear freshness and the typical minerality coming from the terroir. To the eye, it is a beautiful ruby red with faint garnet-coloured reflections. Elegant and refined, it expresses delicate scents of dried flower petals, raspberry, red currant aromas, and hints of herbs and spices. The palate has a dense and elegant tannic texture, subtle and deep aromas, giving a lingering sip, closing on fresh and savoury notes.
