The ruby red color introduces fruity aromas and a balanced, silky sip
Valle d'Aosta Fumin Di Barrò is a red wine with a woody personality made by one of the oldest wineries in the Valle d'Aosta region. During the 19th century, two sub-varieties of Fumin were distinguished, one of which was characterised by a reddish colouring of the foliage at harvest time. Furthermore, a similarity between this variety and the Piedmontese Freisa was suggested at this time, with which it actually shares slightly herbaceous and vinous scents in the wines made from it, an analogy that was later disproved. One hypothesis regarding its name refers to the vaguely smoky aroma that characterises the wine to which it gives rise.
Di Barrò Valle d'Aosta Fumin is a pure expression of the variety of the same name from the vineyards of Montagnine and Torrette, located within the commune of Saint-Pierre, at 750 metres above sea level. The vines were planted in 2000 with full southern exposure. Harvesting is usually carried out during the second half of October, and the bunches are then transferred to the cellar for classic red vinification, with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. The subsequent maturation phase, which lasts 24 months, also takes place in steel to preserve the wine's freshness and varietal character.
To the eye, the Fumin from the Di Barrò winery in Valle d'Aosta expresses an intense ruby red colour. The range of aromas is rich and lively, defined by hints of red fruits and undergrowth that meet floral sensations and delicate spicy nuances. In the mouth, it is balanced and juicy, with soft tannins and a characteristic freshness that lends agility to the sip, anticipating the distinctly fruity finish.
