The Champagne Rosé Brut "La Grande Dame" by Veuve Clicquot is a label dedicated to Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, known as "la Grande Dame de la Champagne," for her prominent role, not only within her family’s Maison but also in the broader history of Champagne. It is a prestigious cuvée based on Pinot Noir, with a small addition of Chardonnay. The extraordinary quality of the grapes and a very long aging on the lees result in a Champagne of exceptional finesse and expressive intensity, complex and persistent.
The Rosé "La Grande Dame" comes from one of the most famous Maisons. Veuve Clicquot was founded in 1772 and remains one of the most renowned brands in the world, thanks to its range of excellent quality labels. The grapes come from the most prized parcels of the Maison, particularly from 6 of the 8 Grand Crus of the estate. The Pinot Noir from the renowned villages of Aÿ, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, and Verzenay, while the Chardonnay comes from Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger. After soft pressing, the musts are vinified separately in white. After an aging period, the vins clairs are assembled, and 14% of Pinot Noir vinified in red from the Clos Colin in Bouzy, one of the estate’s historic plots, is added to the cuvée. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle according to the Champenoise Method, with a period of at least 10 years resting sur lattes in the ancient cellars of the Maison.
