Maison champenoise Laherte Freres presents Champagne 'Petit Meslier' Extra Brut, an original sparkling wine that stands out for its exceptional pleasantness and dynamism. This sparkling wine constitutes a sought-after expression of Petit Meslier, a white grape variety that is among the 7 allowed by the Champagne production regulations. The adjective "petit," or "small," refers to the rather small size of the cluster and individual berries. Despite its limited distribution, quantifiable at about 20 hectares total throughout France, this variety is particularly valued for its ability to preserve acidity even in the hottest and driest years.
Laherte Freres' Champagne 'Petit Meslier' Extra Brut is a 100 percent Petit Meslier from vines planted in 2014 and 2018 within the Vallée de la Marne area. Alcoholic fermentation of the sparkling wine base takes place in oak barrels with frequent batonnage, the same wine container in which malolactic fermentation and maturation of a few months takes place. The mass is then topped up with 40 percent vin de reserve before frothing in the bottle according to the Champenoise Method, with at least 36 months sur lie. After degorgement the wine is finally dosed Extra Brut.
Laherte Freres Champagne Extra Brut 'Petit Meslier' is straw yellow in color with a fine and persistent perlage. The refined nose unfolds on intriguing perceptions of white flowers, green apple and citrus fruits, enhanced by vegetal and bread crust flavors. Almost smoky mineral puffs complete the olfactory context. Distinctly fresh and mineral on the palate, marked by an elegant bubble that caresses the palate and a closure with sensations of citrus and flint.
