Tarlant's Brut Nature 'Zero' Champagne is a bottle of absolute class that rightfully ranks among the region's finest expressions of finesse and depth. In the world of recoltèe manipulants, the name of the Tarlant family is among the most recognised and appreciated by enthusiasts, also thanks to a family history that boasts almost a century of productivity, since the year the winery was founded dates back to 1928. Today, there are approximately 14 hectares under vine, divided into 60 organically cultivated parcels, and with the particularity of having a free-range plot, i.e. that of Les Sables, characterised by a very sandy soil that has stopped the advance of phylloxera. Separate vinification and exaltation of the peculiarities of each plot are some of the cornerstones of a reality that, while working in a sartorial manner, proposes transversal and approachable liquids and that, like all the greatest wines, are appreciated by both neophytes and long-time drinkers. Trait d'union.
Champagne Brut Nature Zero is made from an almost equal blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from vineyards located in Champagne and cultivated organically. In addition to a rigorous approach in the vineyard, where only copper, sulphur and natural preparations are used, a consistent approach is followed in the cellar, with separate vinification of the individual plots and first fermentation in steel containers, followed by re-fermentation in the bottle. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out by choice, and the liquid matures for at least 7 years on the lees before disgorging by hand.
Champagne Brut Nature Zero presents itself in the glass with a delicate straw-yellow colour and fine, persistent bubbles. The nose is fresh and varied, playing on hints of citrus fruits, cedar, hazelnuts and white flowers such as lime and hawthorn. The olfactory richness, made up of whispering nuances and details, is finalised by a gritty and dry mouthfeel, where freshness and saline lengthening punctuate the rhythm of the sip. Generous but never predictable, it is the ideal wine to grasp Benoit Tarlant's approach to the world's most famous wine region with the certainty of a later deepening.
