"Prieurè" is a sweet wine passito from the Val d'Aosta, a nectar of exquisite finesse. The complex and intriguing bouquet of yellow fruit, honey and sweet almond reveals a fascinating, enveloping, rich sip of infinite persistence
Crotta di Vegneron Chambave Muscat Passito 'Prieuré' is a dessert wine from Valle d'Aosta capable of intoxicating the senses with its inviting aromatic sweetness. It is a historic label, an expression of a nectar produced since ancient times, known since at least the 13th century. Historical testimonies report that the Moscato Passito di Chambave was offered in 1494 by George of Challant, a noble cleric and patron of the Aosta Valley, to the King of France, Charles VIII. This precious wine has also enabled viticulture in the Aosta Valley to cope with many dark and difficult periods, stemming from both economic crises and the wine crisis due to phylloxera. As for the label name, the French term "prieuré" means "priory."
La Crotta di Vegneron's Chambave Muscat Passito 'Prieuré' is made with only Muscat Blanc grapes from steep vineyards located between 450 and 680 meters above sea level, on sandy soils of morainic origin. Harvesting is done by hand in a scalar fashion with careful selection of the bunches, which are then placed in small crates inside the fruttaio for the 60-70 day drying phase. Once this period is concluded, the grapes undergo a pre-fermentation cold maceration of 36-48 hours, followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the same type of wine containers where the mass remains to mature for a year on the fine lees with periodic batonnage.
Vegneron's 'Prieuré' Chambave Muscat Passito La Crotta has an intense golden yellow color. The nose expresses hints of yellow peach, wilted violet and sage, enhanced by sweet memories of acacia, honey and sweet almond. Warm, soft and appropriately sweet the palate, with an intriguing and persistent progression well supported by persuasive freshness.
