Carjcanti represents an authentic, evolved and fascinating expression of Carricante: a rich, complex white wine made from a short maceration on the skins and aged in both steel and wood. Citrus and ripe tropical fruit intertwine with soft, fresh and elegant tones
Carjcanti from the Sicilian winery Gulfi is a white wine with a strong personality, fresh and intense, produced in the southeastern part of the island, near Chiaramonte. It is made from a vinification, part in steel and part in wood, of the Carricante grape variety, to which is added a small percentage of Albanello, an ancient white grape variety historically present in the area of Syracuse and Ragusa. It expresses a good structure and complexity, with mature and evolved aromas, ranging from citrus to aromatic herbs, ripe fruit to tropical fruit. The vibrant freshness retains an energetic tension, making the sip taut and flowing.
Carjcanti wine is an interesting white wine from one of Ragusa's most famous and dynamic producers. Cantina Gulfi was founded in 1996 and took on its current physiognomy thanks to the collaboration with Salvo Foti. The decision to cultivate native vines, with high-density bush-trained vines, to produce only quality labels has proved successful. Today Gulfi represents a reference point for Sicilian wine, with a vineyard area of about 70 hectares, managed under organic farming. Production activity is driven by a desire to enhance the best qualities of the terroir with labels of excellence. In addition to red grape varieties, Carricante, which usually dwells on Etna's volcanic soils, has also been planted. In the lands of the Chiaromonte area, it expresses itself with a particularly rich and complex profile of great charm and expressive depth.
Gulfi's Carjcanti wine comes from grapes from the Vigna Campo vineyard, cultivated in the beautiful Val Canzeria area at an altitude of about 400-500 meters above sea level. It is a plot of about one and a half hectares, characterized by predominantly calcareous soils. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are sent to fermentation with a short maceration on the skins, which takes place partly in steel tanks and partly in barriques and tonneaux. The wine matures in steel and wood for about a year before bottling. In the glass, it has a straw-yellow colour with luminous golden reflections. On the nose, it expresses aromas of orange blossom, citrus, aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit, tropical fruit, nuances of vanilla and herbs of the Mediterranean scrub. The sip is long and satisfying, with ripe, multifaceted aromas and a fresh, savoury finish. A label to try to discover another face of Carricante.
