The Barolo "Marenca" 2012 by Luigi Pira is a robust and complex wine, aged in small and large barrels for 24 months. Aromas of underbrush, tobacco and balsamic herbs animate a rich and important sip, powerful but well balanced
Barolo "Marenca" is one of the prestigious red wines from the Luigi Pira winery, one of Serralunga d'Alba's most highly regarded wineries and a big name in Barolo. Played on a rich and complex aromatic range, in which hints of underbrush and sweet and balsamic notes stand out, "Marenca" is the expression of the cru of the same name, the father of powerful wines that fully reflect all the peculiarities of the appellation.
Barolo "Marenca" Luigi Pira was born in two hectares of vineyard included in the Marenca cru. Here, at 350 meters above sea level, limestone and clay soil hosts a vineyard planted in 1990, facing west in the commune of Serralunga. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in horizontal fermenters under the strict control of Gianpaolo Pira. The 24-month ageing process involves moving from small wooden barrels to larger casks. The use of different woods characterizes the winery's production and allows for complex wines that are always very convincing.
Barolo "Marenca" Luigi Pira exudes very characteristic aromas of underbrush (rose, roots, liquorice, bramble fruit, loam) combined with notes of resin and balsamic herbs. The taste is very vigorous, powerful and well-structured. The tannins are lively and pleasant, softened by the good use of wood, moreover, fully assimilated. The leave-taking is entrusted to a floral closure and mineral and spicy trails that create great suggestions and prolong the enchantment.
