The Barbera d'Alba from the young winery Gabriele Cordero is a bottle that offers both satisfying and agile drinking experience. The estate is managed by the siblings Gabriele and Serena Cordero, who cultivate 8 hectares of vineyards in the Lower Piedmont region dedicated to traditional varieties such as Nebbiolo, Arneis, and Barbera. Gabriele takes care of the vineyards, which thrive on biodiversity thanks to the presence of bees, butterflies, and other insects, while Serena is responsible for the winemaking process, which is carried out with an artisanal respect for the raw materials. In addition, Serena acts as a consultant for numerous wineries in the town of Alba, as well as for estates scattered throughout Tuscany, Calabria, and even Moldova.
The Gabriele and Serena Cordero Barbera d'Alba is made solely from Barbera grapes grown in the town of Priocca, where the soils are clayey and sandy and the exposure is full east. When the grapes have reached the desired ripeness stage, they are harvested and crushed in stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in contact with the skins. The subsequent maturation phase also takes place in stainless steel for a few months before bottling and final commercialization.
The Barbera d'Alba from Gabriele and Serena Cordero has a dark and consistent ruby red color with violet reflections. On the nose, there are broad and intense aromas of cherry, berries, and violet, while on the palate, the important structure and soft warmth are well supported by lively freshness and delicate tannins. The finish is long-lasting. This Barbera shows excellent versatility in food and wine pairing, as it can successfully accompany both cheese and cold cut platters as well as more elaborate meat dishes.
