AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE 'DON ANSELMO' PATERNOSTER 2017 DESCRIPTION

Paternoster's Aglianico del Vulture "Don Anselmo" was born in Basilicata precisely in Barile in the province of Potenza. The winery is family-run and its history began in 1925 with Anselmo Paternoster who began to transform his father's home-based business into a structured work, putting the first bottles on the market. From generation to generation, the idea that has always guided the work in the vineyard and cellar has been love in the comforts of one's homeland and its unparalleled characteristics. Pino Paternoster introduced modern winemaking techniques in the cellar, keeping plans for the future and environmental sustainability well in mind. Today it is the third generation at work keeping up the qualitative standard, with the idea of making the winery's work futuristic.

The vineyards of Paternoster's Aglianico del Vulture "Don Anselmo" are located in Contrada Gelosia in the municipality of Barile and their altitude is around 600 meters above sea level; the yields in the vineyard are very low, since it is desired to indulge the natural phases of growth and development of the plants, intervening as little as possible; the chosen cultivation regime is entirely organic no chemicals of any kind are used. The climate is almost regular throughout the year with mild winters without any particular snowfall or sudden frost and hot and sultry summers, but not excessively humid. Grapes are harvested by hand; in the cellar, alcoholic fermentation occurs in steel and maceration on the skins for 15 to 18 days with 3 daily pumpings over until the end of fermentation. Aged in Slavonian barrels for 50% and in French barriques for the remainder. Stays in bottle for 12 months.

To the eye, Paternoster's Aglianico del Vulture "Don Anselmo" is bright ruby red with deep reflections. The bouquet of aromas is reminiscent of red berries and spicy notes of leather, balsamic herbs and sweet spices such as vanilla; in the mouth it is elegant, enveloping and intense with very long persistence on the finish for an encouraging drink. Perfect with roast veal, lamb with herbs and red meats cooked over charcoal; ideal with medium-aged sheep's milk cheeses. This wine is dedicated to the memory of Anselmo, founder of the winery, and exemplifies the Vulture winemaking tradition that has survived the passage of time. It is ideal for winter evenings in front of the fireplace schioppettate with good music as background
